OKLAHOMA CITY — Claremore Sequoyah weathered a four-hour delay to the start of its first-round game at the Class 4A state tournament at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium on Monday, but it was well worth the wait.

Junior Amy Harrison belted a three-run homer with two strikes and two outs in the bottom of the seventh to lift the No. 3 Eagles past Piedmont, 4-2.

"She threw me a fastball inside," said Harrison in a phone interview. "and I got it all. It was exciting. Everyone was cold and wet from waiting in the rain."

Piedmont scored twice in the fourth on an error.

"Piedmont only had one hard hit off Bailey (Erwin)," Sequoyah coach Krystal Markwardt said. "They scored both those runs on the error."

Markwardt couldn't believe the finish.

"Holy cow!" she said. "It was a replay of the regional tournament when Amy came up big there."

The misty delay, coupled with other games going extra innings, hurt Sequoyah's defense.

"We hadn't been outside all week because of the rain," said Markwardt. "It just killed us."

Sequoyah faces No. 2 Tuttle at noon on Tuesday in one semifinal. In the other, set for 10 a.m., Hilldale will play Blanchard.

Unranked Hilldale (28-9) scored two runs in the top of the sixth and nipped No. 1 Catoosa (33-2), 2-1.

Jordan Stinson scored the winning run when Catoosa pitcher Tiffany Brown elected to throw home instead of to first base for the final out. Stinson raced home, sliding safely before Catoosa catcher Jordan Brown could apply the tag.

"I just wanted them to hear footsteps," Hilldale coach Darren Riddle said. "Then I watched as their pitcher threw home instead of to first. It's kind of weird the way we won."

The game was scoreless until the fifth when Haley Henshaw doubled then scored on a Krista Riddle for a 1-0 Catoosa lead.

Paige Boling was hit by a pitch to start the Hilldale sixth.

Boling came home on a wild pitch to tie the game.
