CORBITT - Sharon Lee, age 61. Born in Prague, OK on November 13, 1946, died of smoke inhalation from a house fire on December 12, 2007. Sharon was a 1965 graduate of Midwest City High School where she was on the National Honor Society, was active on the pep squad, French club, and speech and drama team. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University and later completed her Juris Doctorate at the University of Tulsa. Sharon practiced in the area of matrimonial law. She was a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and is a past president of the Oklahoma Chapter. She also is a past chair of the American Bar Association Family Law section and the Oklahoma Bar Association Family Law Section. She received recognition on two separate occasions by the Oklahoma Bar Association Family Law Section as the Outstanding Family Law Attorney. Sharon was currently serving in the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association. She frequently lectured nationally in the area of matrimonial law and was well respected by her peers, receiving numerous awards and accomplishments over her years of practice, including Pro Bono Service Award from the Oklahoma Bar Association. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sharon devoted a great deal of her time and energy to causes that were important to her and the community. Serving on the Board of Directors and as a past President of Domestic Violence Intervention Services of Tulsa, appointed by the Mayor to a collaborative team to oversee the opening of the Family Safety Center in Tulsa, founding trustee of the Long Term Care Authority of Tulsa, board of directors of the Parent-Child Center of Tulsa, and former commissioner of the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence. In addition she was a faithful and committed member of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church for over 15 years, teaching Sunday School, Disciple Bible Study, sponsoring Walks to Emmaus, and even teaching cooking classes. She was a very generous person in her professional and private life, and even continued her generosity after her death by contributing all of her vital organs, bones, skin and tissues to many people whose lives will be richly blessed by her gift. Sharon was happily married to Tulsa attorney Jim Lang for the past fifteen years. She was preceded in death by: her husband Jim, who died last week in the same house fire, and her parents, Harold G. Terry and Lillie (Ondrasek) Terry. She is survived by: her aunt and uncle, Emily and Cecil Chrastek of Prague, OK; her brothers, Ed Terry of Shawnee, John Terry of Noble, and Charlie Terry of Oklahoma City; her sons, Chad R. Corbitt, wife, Beth and grandchildren, Caleb and Chase of Tulsa; Blake Corbitt of Maui, HI; her stepdaughters, Shelly Gore, husband, Kevin and grandchildren, Abby, Emy and Braxton of Tulsa; Dr. Jennifer Lang, husband, John Schissel, grandchildren, Jake and Beck of Little Rock, AR. One of the many things that Jim and Sharon loved to do together included an annual family vacation in which all of the children and grandchildren would take together. In addition they were always hosting large family gatherings at their home during the holidays and any other occasions they could get everyone together. Family was extremely important to both of them and they loved to spend time with their grandchildren, taking them to the zoo, having them over to spend the night, and attending any activities they were involved in. Sharon was also very proud of her Godchildren and had many longstanding relationships with both her Bridge club that has met together for the last forty years, and her Bunko group that has been together for the last seventeen. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that remembrances in her name be made payable to the University of Tulsa. Checks may be mailed to the University of Tulsa, 800 S. Tucker Drive, Tulsa, OK 74104. In the memo field of the check please reference "Sharon L. Corbitt Memorial Scholarship Fund" to designate the donation. Service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday December 22, at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa. Under the direction of Moore's Memory Chapel, 583-6148. My heart aches for Sharon's family. She was my attorney and my friend. She was a whirlwind of energy with a quick wit and she definately knew her stuff. She was a brilliant lawyer who fought hard for me and my daughter. Thanks to Sharon our family is whole and happy. I will miss her very much and hope that her family can have some sense of peace knowing she helped so many people and made a monumental difference in their lives. I always thought Sharon would have made a great Judge. God bless you Sharon!!!!
