Here is There takes first place

Here is There took top honors at the 2008 Satellite Battle of the Bands at the Cain's Ballroom on Saturday night.

The band from Booker T. Washington High School wowed the judges with its performance, songwriting and stage show. As the first-place winner, Here is There will spend eight hours Sunday recording aboard the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus and receive a $1,000 gift card to Saied Music Company.

The audience voted for the Bart Betow Memorial People's Choice Award, which went to Big Sleep from Jenks High School and Riverfield Country Day School. The group won a $500 check from the Betow family, which sponsors the award every year in memory of their son and brother Bart, who died on Sept. 15, 2005, following a car wreck.

Second place and a $500 Saied gift card went to The Twenties of Bixby and Jenks high schools while Big Sleep also came in third and got $250 worth of gear at the music store.

The battle sold out for the fourth consecutive year as teenagers from across the Tulsa area came out to support their friends and classmates in what has become a showcase for the state's most talented young musicians.
