Who is filling out this survey?

This is Aaron Hamby

What was your/the band's reaction
when told you were picked to showcase at Dfest?

We were all very pleased to hear that we were selected to play D-fest.

Have you showcased at Dfest before? If so, what was it like? If not, what are looking forward to most during your live set?

No. This is our first time. We want to play our music- That's all we ever really want to do- We are very happy to have that opportunity.

Is there a headlining act that you're going to drop everything to see (The Roots, Paramore, All-American Rejects, etc.)? If so, which one(s)?

Clay is stoked about the Roots.

What are 5 indie/unsigned/local bands performing this year that you would recommend to a complete stranger as "must see"?

Black Swan, Mayola, El Paso Hot Button, Jesse Aycock, John Moreland & the Black Gold Band

Do you have plans to attend the conference portion of the event? If so, who are you most wanting to see? If not, why?

Less Talk. More Rock

Where and when was your band formed, and how?

Our band was formed in Tulsa Oklahoma in July 2005 (Our 3 year anniversary). It was inspired by the city and the people who make it great. Liz and I started the band, clay joined and then left. Sam joined. Clay re-joined. Sam left. Daniel joined. The band has played consistently throughout each transition.

Are you released/will you release an album this year? If so, what's the album title, if you've chosen one?

We just released our debut LP entitled "Callupsie" On Little Mafia Records.

How do YOU describe your sound to people who haven't heard your music?

Callupsie sounds like stars and water dancing together in a dirty basement.

How do YOU describe your live act to people who haven't seen you perform live?

Callupsie live is a real honest effort to present our music to the listener, the way it was intended to be listened to.... LOUD and ALL AROUND.

What's the most quirky, funny or intolerable aspect of your music?

Quirky- Liz hits the crap out of the drums.
Funny- Clay has some wild dance moves/distortion pedals.

What's the most quirky, funny or intolerable aspect of your current member lineup?

Liz and I live together, Daniel and Clay live together.

Where is the oddest place that you've found inspiration for a song, and which song was it?

Tibetan Fox....(clay watches too much discovery channel). The song itself has absolutely nothing to do with tibetan foxes....we all just thought they were cool. The song is actually about guilt, drowning, edgar allen poe and the devil. Although, looking back, the song has a certain swagger...a movement I would liken to a bouncy tibetan fox.

What does your band name mean?

Callupsie, the word, means nothing.

Are you going to be rich and famous because of what you've learned from, and the opportunity to play at, Dfest? In other words, what are you expecting to gain from this experience?

We want to do what we do best, and that is play music. Whether it be at D-fest or some guys living room, you will get the same amount of honesty and intensity from all of us. We will let the chips fall where they may. Bands have to stay focused on their art and passion, otherwise, what's the point?

Have you attended Dfest before as a music fan? If so, what was the most fun? If not, what are you most excited about?

I have! I always like seeing downtown full of people. The energy is pretty neat.

Will you use the public toilets (port-a-johns)?

I will wear shoes that look like hooves in them!

In 10 words or less, describe Dfest for someone who is completely unfamiliar with the event:

D-fest is like Heavy Metal Parking Lot, only better.

How has the price of gasoline changed how and when you perform and what gigs you choose to accept?

The price of gas has definitely made traveling more sketchy. Although, it is a way of seeing the bands who are passionate about their message and their art and separating those who talk about touring to those who actually go out and do it.
