P.D.A.

What was your/the band's reaction when told you were picked to showcase at Dfest?

It was actually pretty chill. I just called up Cramberg and was like "Hey, we got on." And he was like, "Awesome." Then we celebrated with some beers.. :)

Have you showcased at Dfest before? If so, what was it like? If not, what are looking forward to most during your live set?

Yeah, last year. It was amazing. We were in a hot, sweaty venue with about 150 other people dancing and having a great time. I was throwing water and ice on the crowd just so everybody wouldn't pass out. It was great. My shirt was soaked in sweat after the show. Just being around all that music all day was awesome. I didn't get to see a lot of bands last year 'cause I pretty much walked around both days passing out fliers for my showcase. Which is prolly what I will be doing this year as well.

Is there a headlining act that you're going to drop everything to see (The Roots, Paramore, All-American Rejects, etc.)? If so, which one(s)?

I really wanna see The Roots (of course) but they have such an extensive Catalogue that I'm not sure if they will play any of the songs I want to hear. And I have heard nothing but great things about Paramore. Plus the girl is hot so maybe I can schedule a meeting with her.

What are 5 indie/unsigned/local bands performing this year that you would recommend to a complete stranger as "must see"?

Kawnar
Congress of A Crow
My Solstice
Sworn Against
Here Is There

If you only see one, you HAVE to see Here Is There. Hands down best band in Tulsa.

Do you have plans to attend the conference portion of the event? If so, who are you most wanting to see? If not, why?

I'll spend my time downtown passing out fliers and promoting my show.

Where and when was your band formed, and how?

I started doing opera and choir work when I was five and continued to do it 'til I started rapping when I was 13. Started producing beats and called myself P.D.A. Never really took it too serious until I was about 17 and put out my first album. Three albums later I meet Cramberg and talked to him about drumming over my tracks to add a live feel and in two years we have continued to keep doing the damn thing.

Are you released/will you release an album this year? If so, what's the album title, if you've chosen one?

I released my first "real" CD titled "Act II - A Different Victim" February 2007 and Im hoping to release my next album "Act III - Wasted Talent" sometime next year.

How do YOU describe your sound to people who haven't heard your music?

I normally just tell people how much I suck. I don't know. I normally just tell them it's hard to explain. Most people who HAVE heard the album can't explain it. Cause its definitely hip-hop music, but there is just something strange and different about it. So even people who HATE hip-hop music love it.

How do YOU describe your live act to people who haven't seen you perform live?

Again, something you can't explain. Very few acts have the energy and professionalism we have when it comes to performing live.

What's the most quirky, funny or intolerable aspect of your music?

The fact that I do EVERYTHING in the music. All the vocals, beats, screams, heaves, grunts. And that can be quirky, funny AND intolerable.

What's the most quirky, funny or intolerable aspect of your current member lineup?

Have you SEEEEN Cramberg? He is a "Ginger Balls." And, well, I have pigtails.

Where is the oddest place that you've found inspiration for a song, and which song was it?

I have a song on the new album called "Stuck Up", and I got the inspiration for that song at a friend's birthday party while I was standing at the food table eating all the chips and dip. I even talk about it in the song, about a girl that came to get some chips and dip as well and disses me in the process. Such a ladies man …

What does your band name mean? Or, why do you prefer being a solo artist?

It means Public Display Of Afflection (affLICTION and affECTION combined to create the struggle between love and hate), And I enjoy being a solo artist because I get to make all the calls on the music and what I make. I'm sorta selfish that way.

Are you going to be rich and famous because of what you've learned from, and the opportunity to play at, Dfest? In other words, what are you expecting to gain from this experience?

I don't have a choice BUT to be rich and famous. Yeah. I think Dfest will definitely help me on my path. Last year we got a drum sponsorship from PoBoy Drums.

Have you attended Dfest before as a music fan? If so, what was the most fun? If not, what are you most excited about?

Naw. I never heard of Dfest 'til I played it last year. And I'm really just excited about playing. I hope it turns out great.

Will you use the public toilets (port-a-johns)?

Bwahahaha!! Only if I get to share one with Jennifer Chancellor.

In 10 words or less, describe Dfest for someone who is completely unfamiliar with the event:

Think SXSW in Tulsa.

How has the price of gasoline changed how and when you perform and what gigs you choose to accept?

It really hasn't changed the way we tour. Yeah it sucks having to spend more money on gas. But most of the time the shows and contacts are worth it.
