How do you think the city should finance the estimated $1.6 billion in street improvements necessary to bring them to an average grade?
We should review earnestly if $1.6 billion will be the actual number needed. We need input from citizens and local business leaders as well as political leaders before we rush into any particular plan of action. Then and only then we should move fully to get our streets in the best shape possible.
What do you think the city should do to further development along the Arkansas River and how should it be funded?
We should look at and review what other similar cities have planned or implemented. We need to seriously consider the actual cost of development and the areas that need the most from the influx of resources and tools that private interest groups or companies would bring to such a development. The goal is economic growth which will benefit all of Tulsa and its surrounding areas.
Would you support/not support public financial assistance to further downtown commercial development that could include a baseball stadium for the Drillers team? Please explain your position.
I believe that funding from private businesses and the Drillers should be the desired avenue if a new ball park is to be built in a downtown location. Those individuals or business owners who would greatly benefit from the new stadium should also financially help since this would dramatically increase revenues in their businesses and shops. We also need to understand the shortage of parking downtown and the on-going problem and expense it creates for limited parking spaces. A requirement of a multi-layered parking garage area should be implemented as well.
What would be three goals you would like to accomplish if you are elected?
A. Quality growth and exceptional improvements in residential and commercial areas of Tulsa.
B. Safer streets, businesses and local neighborhoods.
C. Expanded safe areas in strategic locations throughout Tulsa where children, teens and adults could go to get help such as counseling, homework tutoring or obtaining lists of local agencies that offer help. We need volunteer fellowships that included retired people, teachers, coaches, ministers, professional business men and women etc who could volunteer to help each location thrive. Having these good role models can make a positive change in lives of many Tulsans. One more goal is to dramatically improve Route 66 through Tulsa by offering local business special incentives to remodel and rebuild new and exciting "old nostalgia" shops and restaurants to draw out-of-state tourists and locals to the area. The Chamber of Commerce could also get actively involved with this project.
What do you see as personal strengths that you would bring to the position?
As a person who has faced all types of problems in life, I quickly learned the word perseverance. I was only seven when my father was killed in an Air Force plane crash. I quickly grew in responsibilities by helping my mom and three younger siblings. Then as a soccer coach and referee for many years with young children and teens, I managed difficult decisions and choices with the utmost fairness and honesty. I am a man who strongly believes that true compassion, kind consideration and genuine communication needs to be increased in Tulsa and its city government. All of us need to take responsibility for a better City of Tulsa.
