Job Title/Employer: Retired, volunteer work as pastor

Number of children: Two adult children

Previously sought or held elected office? No

Highest level of education, name of institution, and year graduated: Bachelor's degree from Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, Texas, 1983.

To what religious and civic organizations do you belong? Southern Baptist

Are you a registered voter? Yes

Why are you seeking this position? I wish to serve our parents, children and the school district.

What do you believe are the chief responsibilities of a school board member? I represent the parents, children and school, faculty and administration in instituting and overseeing the policies of the school district in accordance with the Oklahoma state laws and the benefit of an excellent education for our children; furnishing them the very best opportunities to acquire that education. I also assist the school superintendent when called upon to make decisions on issues that are brought before the entire board for a solution.

How much time would you plan to spend in the schools in your voting district on a weekly basis? As needed!

What should the relationship of the school board be to the superintendent? Cooperative and helpful.

What are the greatest strengths of the school district? Excellent faculty and administrative leadership. They also have a very good cooperative relationship with one another.

What are the greatest weaknesses of the school district? With such a large school system, the changes that have to be addressed and the state laws that will be passed, modified or deleted makes such tasks difficult to quickly address without proper data from our parents, teachers, and leadership. We would need to be cooperative with one another on the school board and with the administration so important issues could be solved. This is more time consuming because of such a large school district.

What changes and/or new initiatives, if any, would you like to see in the district?
At this time I would not present myself as knowing what the "issues" are. I am well prepared to be effective as a board member of Union school district because of my education and life experience. With our society revolving around various political groups I would pay attention to securing our children's safety and furnishing them as many opportunities for their education as possible.

Do you have any other comments or concerns about the school district? I have a grandson at Rosa Parks Elementary school, and I am pleased with his opportunities for a good education.
