1. What are the top three issues in your district?
1 price of gasoline. 2. intrastructure needs, especially street repairs. 3. cost of health insurance
2. Lawmakers approved a stand-still budget for the coming fiscal year. Critics blamed previous tax cuts for a drop in revenues, while tax cut supporters say such cuts spur the economy. Do you believe Oklahoma can sustain additional tax cuts?
I voted for the referenced tax relief but do not support additional tax cuts at this time. Oklahoma has vital infrastructure needs in the areas of transportation, education and health. And Oklahoma is already one of the smallest state governments in the country, in terms of per capita spending.
3. Do you think illegal immigration is a serious problem facing Oklahoma? Why or why not?
Illegal immigration lowers wages and reduces employment rates for Oklahoma residents in certain labor markets, especially construction, agriculture and food services. It is against federal law to hire undocumented workers, and I believe these laws should be enforced.
4. Do you believe voters should be required to produce identification at the polls?
Yes. I voted for voter identification, but I also fought to make voter registration easier. The two go hand in hand. The 6 states which have adopted the same day registration provisions have among the highest voter turnouts in the country.
5. Should the governor be taken out of the parole process?
Qualified yes. A December 2007 outside audit of our Department of Corrections recommended that the governor's oversight of the parole process be limited to only the most violent cases. This is similar to the process in most other states.
