Why are you seeking this position? I am a child-focused, community-minded leader working for the best possible student and faculty environment. As a parent and working mother of children in the Broken Arrow Schools, I see first hand the challenges and opportunities. I have a vested interest in the success of Broken Arrow Schools.
What do you believe are the chief responsibilities of a school board member? I believe school board members have many important responsibilities, and should take them all very seriously. Making sure our teachers and students have all the resources they need is a very important responsibility of school board members. Also, it is important that school board members oversee our tax dollars in a responsible way.
How much time would you plan to spend in the schools in your voting district on a weekly basis? I am committed to being a knowledgeable, informed school board member. I will devote a significant amount of time each week to be the best possible school board member. I believe communication is extremely important.
What should the relationship of the school board be to the superintendent? I believe the school board and superintendent should work as partners toward the goal of giving Broken Arrow children the best possible education. Balance and communication is key.
What are the greatest strengths of the school district? Broken Arrow Public Schools has many accomplishments through the students and staff of the district. The Pride of Broken Marching Band is the reigning Bands of America Grand National Champions. The Broken Arrow High School cheerleaders (varsity) are the defending national champions. High school girls golf coach was named the Tulsa World Metro Golf Coach of the Year. These are just a few examples of many honors the students and staff of Broken Arrow School District have received.
What are the greatest weaknesses of the school district? The city of Broken Arrow is growing at a rapid pace. The Broken Arrow School district has to manage the effects of the growth when it comes to our kids having facilities, materials/books and quality teachers.
