Q&A

Who is filling out this survey?

Riley Jantzen

Please name your band, its members' names and what they play.

My band goes by the name Mayola. Members would be my self *Riley Jantzen* - Singing, Guitar, Keys. *Antonio Laster* - Bass. *Bryan Thompson* - Keys, guitar. *Madden Humphrey* - Drums. *Travis Nichols* - Guitar

How would you describe your band's music?

It has been described as Post-Apocalyptic Country 'n Western Rock 'n Roll. Or we can just call it a good time.

How did you learn about Dfest?

Back a long long time ago (D-Fest 07) I think the Internet let us know. Or Colour Music...one of the two...

Why did you apply for Dfest?

Because it is always one of the best shows of the year.

What is the most fun thing about performing live?

Watching Antonio make weird faces.

Have you performed at Dfest before? If so, what was your favorite part about it? If not, what are you most looking forward to?

Yes two times before, and I would say the best part is how happy people are to be seeing music. Just good people having fun.

Will you be going to the music conference? If so, what are you most looking forward to?

Yep, I like to wing it when it comes to the conference but if I miss Andrew W.K. I will not forgive myself.

What projects is your band currently working on?

Recording a new album that will hopefully be out in the fall.

How has the economy changed your band, touring, making music, etc.?

Currently with gas prices not being as bad as they had been the economy has not affected us as bad as in the past. It more just gives me something to write songs about.

As a musician, which three bands are you most looking forward to seeing at Dfest?

If I have to pick just three (which is not fair) Delta Spirit, Gentleman Auction House, Other Lives

Will you offer meet-and-greets after/before your shows? If so, when/where?

We have not planned any yet, but if it is anything like the last two years it seemed that I saw EVERYBODY in the world before and after the show somewhere.

What's the funniest/weirdest story you have about any song you've written?

I have a song about being a piano playing train robber (*the great train robbery* is the name)....or another about being a poor starving child in the 1850's trying to make it to the spring (*1853* is the name)...not so funny I guess

What can fans expect during your Dfest performance?

To sweat and to be sweated on.

How is Dfest different from any other show you do?

All of my very best music friends from all over the state get to all party together at the same time. As for the show its self I guess the only big difference is we get a lot of NEW listeners that help us play shows for the rest of the year.

Where would you like your band to be two years from today?

Successful I suppose, on TRL...(I just found out that show is not on anymore, my dreams are killed)

What's the coolest fact about your fans?

That they are all crazy out of their minds.

What tips do you offer to "beat the heat" at this July festival?

Short shorts and tank tops with Mayola written on the front in permanent marker, and one of those cool little fans with the spray bottle attached.

What's the weirdest/quirkiest fact about any member of your band?

Antonio sells knifes professionally.
