Arubah Community Clinic in Collinsville has announced that Dr. Kayse Shrum will serve as the honorary chair for the organization’s 2019 annual fundraiser, Healthy Laughs, Healthy Lives.

Shrum is the president of OSU Center for Health Sciences and newly appointed Secretary of Science and Innovation for the state of Oklahoma. Her husband Darren will also serve as co-chair for the event.

Healthy Laughs, Healthy Lives, the primary fundraising event for Arubah, is a family-friendly event that will feature a live and silent auction, world-class meal, raffles, games and a live performance by comedian Jeff Allen.

Arubah will host the convention for the sixth year in a row at the Tulsa Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center on Sept. 21, 2019.

Founded in November 2011, the privately funded faith-based organization offers free care for those in need of medical assistance who may not have the funding or medical insurance to cover it. Every dollar donated to Arubah results in $5 of medical care to patients.

“My husband Darren and I are honored to serve as this year’s co-chairs,” Shrum said. “We look forward to being a part of this special event that benefits Arubah Community Clinic and the great work that they do to care for the medically underserved.”

In January, the clinic, located at 1021 W. Main St., announced a new partnership with the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences and College of Osteopathic Medicine, beginning with the 2019 spring semester.

The partnership allows second-year medical students in the Service-Learning and Community Engagement course to serve at the clinic as part of the volunteer medical team.

“We are grateful to Arubah Community Clinic for hosting our medical students and for giving them the opportunity to learn by serving others,” Shrum said. “I’m proud of the partnership that has formed between our institution and this clinic.”

Tickets may be purchased online through the Arubah’s website at the early bird rate of $85 for an individual or $170 per couple. Tickets purchased after Sept. 1 will increase to $100 per ticket. For more information, email healthylaughs@arubahclinic.com.
