Cowboys and cowgirls will stampede into Owasso this weekend for the 35th annual IPRA Championship Rodeo.
This year’s event, which will run Friday and Saturday, returns to McCarty Park at Owasso Round Up Club Arena, which located at 8120 N. 91st E. Ave. Tulsa Bone and Joint and the Owasso Round Up Club are presenting sponsors.
The rodeo begins at 8 p.m. both evenings.
Special events include the return of Kids Calf Scramble, Mutton Bustin and Steer Racing as well as Ranch Bronc Riding. Tough enough to wear pink is Saturday night, which will benefit breast cancer research. Cancer survivors get in free Saturday night.
Tickets are $6 for children at the gate and $4 in advance. Adults are $8 at the gate and $6 in advance. Advanced tickets are available at Owasso Tire Barn, Gathering on Main and Owasso Chamber of Commerce. Members of the military, both active and non-active, as well as first responders are half price with proper identification.
The rodeo, which began in 1964, brings in participants from more than a dozen states, according to event coordinator Tom Schick.
“The event goes on, rain or shine,” Schick said. “If it’s muddy, it makes things interesting.”
