The Owasso Police Department has joined the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office in investigating a recent string of copper wire thefts at construction sites in the area.
Owasso PD on Monday, April 15, reported that officers discovered a theft at a home under construction in the Villas at Stonebridge near 76th St. and 132nd E. Ave.
According to the report, officers noticed that the copper pipes at the site looked like they had been cut and piled in the backyard but not yet stolen.
“They called the builder and confirmed the attempted theft, but no arrests/no suspect (were) located in the area,” said Owasso Deputy Police Chief Jason Woodruff. “(We) possibly scared them off, or maybe (they) planned to return later to collect the metal.”
Owasso PD also recovered stolen property, including another pile of copper wires, around 3 a.m. that same day near 12300 E. 91st St., which officers believe may have come from a construction site in Rogers County.
