Northbound lanes of U.S. 169 were closed at 56th Street North Thursday morning while police tried to talk a man down from a bridge overpass.

Tulsa County Sheriff’s deputies, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Owasso police were reportedly on scene with a crisis negotiator, according to the police report.

After around two hours, the man became distracted when reaching for a refreshment supplied by authorities, and an officer took the opportunity to tackle the individual and pull him from the ledge. He was combative but eventually restrained, the report shows.

It states that the man was treated by EMSA and later taken into custody by Tulsa police.

The officer who apprehended the subject sustained minor injuries from struggling on the concrete and was treated and released by medics.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 169 were closed at 56th Street North for the duration of the event but quickly opened once the individual was taken into custody.
