The Sand Springs Pogue Airport is preparing to host the Chillin’ and Grillin’ Barbecue Festival.

The two-day event will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. April 7 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 8 at the airport at 101 John Hess Drive. Taster kits are $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Attendees can also enjoy the amateur backyard barbecue contest, raffles, arts and crafts, helicopter rides, the Masonic Lodge motorcycle poker run and more.

“We’re keeping the grounds mowed and (maintained),” Airport Supervisor Ken Madison said. “We’ll just be basically business as usual…there may be more traffic.”

Madison said he was approached by representatives of the Sand Springs Chamber of Commerce to have the event at the airport because of construction at River City Park.

“We appreciate the chamber,” he said. “It’ll be a great success.”
