Three-time Grammy-winning rockers Kings of Leon, who have Oklahoma City and Talihina ties, will play a free outdoor concert Sept. 27 as headliners of the three-day grand opening of downtown Oklahoma City’s new Scissortail Park.

OKC Mayor David Holt made the announcement this morning from the stage of the Love's Travel Stops Stage and Great Lawn at Scissortail Park. He told The Oklahoman that organizers for the grand opening weekend wanted a headliner that could draw a wide audience and fill the new park's Great Lawn, which has an expected capacity of 15,000 people.

Ties to Oklahoma or OKC were considered desirable but weren't a requirement in picking the headlining act, he said.
