Kelly Hines

I grew up reading a newspaper every morning and developed a deep appreciation for an incredible product that presents the community's best and most important stories and photos on a daily basis.

Newspapers have vital roles in society: to inform the public, to serve as a record, to hold leaders accountable. I am proud to have worked for this upstanding publication for the past decade, including seven years and counting as a sportswriter.

I enjoy my job for a lot of reasons, but my favorite part is uncovering stories that otherwise would have gone untold. Athletes and coaches are people first, and getting to know them and learning their backgrounds is more interesting to me than any game.

But the games are pretty fun, too.
