Tulsa school board member Amy Shelton resigned Monday, leaving a seat on the board open.
Tulsa Public Schools will accept applications until Aug. 30. Eligible candidates must have lived within the District 2 boundaries as a registered voter for at least six months, have graduated from high school or have the equivalent of a high school diploma, not be related to someone on the school board and not be employed by Tulsa Public Schools.
Shelton originally had planned to resign Aug. 6 but held off for two weeks in order to take part in the vote on changing the name of Lee School to Council Oak Elementary School.
The vacant seat’s district boundaries run along the Interstate 244 corridor, from Pine Street on the north boundary to 11th Street on the south boundary. The following schools are within the district: Booker T. Washington High School; Carver Middle School; Will Rogers College Junior High and High School; and Kendall-Whittier, McKinley, Mitchell, Owen, Sequoyah and Springdale elementary schools.
