BARTLESVILLE —- A Bartlesville High School student was arrested Thursday after a weapon was discovered in his vehicle on school grounds, police said.

Bartlesville police are handling the investigation, but the student also will be disciplined by Bartlesville Public Schools in accordance with the school district's policy, according to a press release issued by the administration.

"There is nothing more important than the safety and security of our students and staff, and we will continue to do everything possible to ensure the Bartlesville Public School District is safe," Interim Superintendent Chuck McCauley said.

The school district's initial investigation indicates that the student had no intent to cause harm, he said.
