An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for the former treasurer of a Tulsa elementary school’s PTA.
Chyanna Renee Patterson, 37, is charged in Tulsa County District Court with embezzling more than $6,000 from the Bell Elementary School PTA between May 2018 and December 2018, according to a court affidavit.
Patterson is accused of withdrawing amounts between $200 and $500 nine times from the PTA’s debit account, spending more than $800 on the organization’s debit card and retaining all money collected from the Bell Elementary Turkey Bingo event and money collected from students for Bell Elementary T-shirts, the affidavit states.
Patterson told police during an interview that she “really did not want to be the treasurer,” calling the records “a mess,” and said that although she recognized the initials on the withdrawal receipts, she didn’t know who took the money, according to the affidavit.
She also told police she had more than $900 at home in a PTA lock box, the affidavit states.
Patterson was asked to give the money, lock box and any property belonging to the PTA to the organization’s new treasurer and to prove that the money she withdrew or spent was for PTA-supported activities, but she did neither, according to the affidavit.
Patterson’s bail will be set at $2,000, according to online court records.
