Update 2:30 p.m. Stillwater Police were unable to locate a 911 caller who said he was holding several hostages at 213 W. Elm Ave. Sunday morning. 

Officers evacuated and searched the apartment complex, but were unable to find a crime scene, according to a news release. 

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 405-372-4171. 

Stillwater Police are evacuating an apartment building just east of the Oklahoma State University campus after receiving a call from a man who claimed to have taken hostages. 

Police were evacuating the complex, 213 W. Elm Ave., about 12:30 p.m., and attempting to locate the caller, according to a news release. 

The legitimacy of the call has not been confirmed, the release states. 

About 9:15 a.m., a 911 caller said he was holding several hostages, one of whom he claimed to have shot, at the complex and laid pipe bombs in the area, according to the release. 

The man demanded a large sum of cash in exchange for the hostages, and he identified himself by name when asked but refused to provide his apartment number, the release states. 

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad has been called for assistance. 

Stillwater Police are asking residents to stay away from the areas of Elm Avenue and Husband Street, and Elm Avenue and Duncan Street until the situation is resolved.
