The story below published in Wednesday's Tulsa World:
A man was stabbed to death at a midtown Tulsa apartment complex Tuesday evening, police say.
The victim, a 32-year-old, was found on the sidewalk outside his apartment about 8:20 p.m., Capt. Shellie Seibert said.
Seibert said it appears he was trying to get back to his apartment after being stabbed in a parking lot at Brighton Park Apartments, 4881 S. Darlington Ave., but he collapsed.
A passerby thought he was having a medical episode and called 911, Seibert said.
He initially was thought to have had a seizure, then authorities were told he was in cardiac arrest. When firefighters arrived, they thought he had been shot, but police determined that he had been stabbed.
Officers quickly canvassed the area, going door to door and interviewing those nearby, which led them to a person of interest at a complex across the street.
When officers approached the man to question him, he ran, leading them on a short foot chase before they took him into custody, Seibert said.
Detectives took him downtown for an interview.
Some family members of the victim were at the scene, and their wails could be heard throughout the complex. A Police Department chaplain was called to the scene.
This is the 24th killing Tulsa police have investigated since the beginning of the year and the second fatal stabbing since Saturday.
