OOLOGAH — A Tulsa police officer was hospitalized with severe injuries after a pickup collided with his motorcycle at a Rogers County intersection Wednesday evening.

A Tulsa Police Department spokesman confirmed that Cpl. Aaron McPherson, 38, was involved in the crash, which occurred on U.S. 169 about three miles south of Oologah.

McPherson was driving north on U.S. 169 when a 2000 Ford pickup turned onto the highway from 470 Road without stopping at a stop sign around 7:40 p.m., according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The truck collided with McPherson's 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The OHP report indicates McPherson was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in stable condition, but a news release from the Oologah-Talala EMS District stated he was hospitalized in critical condition.

The pickup driver — Kari Xiong, 42, of Collinsville — refused treatment at the scene. A passenger — Sammie Xiong, 20, of Collinsville — was not injured, according to the OHP report.

McPherson joined the TPD in August 2004.
