A juvenile girl was injured by gunfire Thursday evening outside a south Tulsa convenience store.

Police responded about 5 p.m. to the report of a shooting at the Peoria Mart, 6336 S. Peoria Ave., where they found a girl with a gunshot wound to her ankle, Tulsa Police Capt. Shellie Seibert said.

The girl was with her boyfriend when an altercation among a group of older teenagers or young men occurred. One among the group pulled a handgun and fired one shot, striking the juvenile girl.

The group fled the scene.

The juvenile was transported to an area hospital and she and her boyfriend were being interviewed by police, officers at the scene said. It was not clear Thursday whether the girl was the intended target of the shooting.
