Tulsa police identified the man accused of shooting two people before being shot and killed by an officer while leaving the scene of the shootings.
Derrec Shaw, 25, was shot and killed by a Tulsa police officer on May 10, according to a news release. Shaw was allegedly pointing a firearm at passing vehicles on Interstate 44 near Peoria Avenue while crossing the interstate, according to a previous story. Shaw was suspected of shooting two people at a nearby strip mall minutes before attempting to cross the interstate.
Shaw reportedly walked south from about 49th Place and Peoria Avenue, shot two people at separate locations before fleeing on foot.
Shaw was also accused in two attempted carjackings around that time. It was unclear Monday whether those attempts occurred on the highway.
Shaw was convicted of a felony larceny charge in Tulsa County District Court in 2012 and possession of a firearm after former conviction of a felony in 2014, according to court records. He was charged in 2018 with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, but charges were dismissed when a prosecution witness failed to appear in court.
