OKLAHOMA CITY - The state Court of Criminal Appeals denied an appeal from a man convicted of the infamous 1984 murder of an Ada store clerk.
Karl Fontenot, 51, lost his appeal Oct. 29, but his attorney said she'll take his claims of innocence to federal court. Fontenot was the Oklahoma Innocence Project's first client and former director Tiffany Murphy continues to represent him.
Fontenot is serving life without parole for the robbery, kidnapping and murder of Donna Denice Haraway, who disappeared from her job at an Ada convenience store. Her remains were found 30 miles east of Ada in 1986.
In a legal brief filed in Pontotoc County District Court, Murphy argues evidence was withheld from Fontenot's original defense attorneys, including his alibi.
