OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma City woman who told police she fatally beat her daughter while attempting to rid her of Satan was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Oklahoma County jurors found Juanita Martinez Gomez, 51, guilty last month of first-degree murder. District Judge Ray Elliott sentenced Gomez in accordance with the jury's chosen punishment.

Gomez appeared in court shackled and dressed in an orange jail uniform. Speaking softly, she answered the judge's questions but declined to make any statements regarding the case. She plans to appeal.

After the killing, Gomez admitted to repeatedly punching her daughter and forcing a crucifix and religious medallion down her throat because she was possessed by the devil, according to investigators.
