Broken Arrow school officials said the district is the victim of a cyber attack affecting its computer network.
District officials, in a Thursday news release, said cyber security experts confirmed the district is the victim of a ransomware attack. Ransomware attacks seek to deny access to computer systems or networks or hold data hostage for ransom.
“We have no plans to pay the ransom,” Broken Arrow district spokesman Charlie Hannema said.
Hannema said in the release that district officials were not aware of “any unauthorized disclosure of student personal data or financial information.”
The district has been experiencing network and server issues recently thought to be caused by criminals. Hannema said the matter has been referred to the FBI for investigation.
Broken Arrow Public Schools remains scheduled to start on Aug. 21 and pre-K on Aug. 23. Bus route information will be made available on Aug. 16.
