Dorothy Bumgardner, of Tulsa, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016, at the age of 88.
She was born November 16, 1927 to John and Ada Brandon in Gueda Springs, Kan., the second youngest of nine children.
Dorothy graduated from Newkirk High School in 1945. On December 22, 1946 she married her soul mate, Paul Bumgardner, and to this union they raised their three children. Dorothy was primarily a homemaker, but also briefly worked for Public Service Company. She was also an attendance clerk for several years at Tulsa Public Schools.
Dorothy was dedicated to her family and her church and loved attending her grandchildren's activities. In the early 1990s Dorothy and Paul were involved in Missionary Work with the LDS Church. She was always positive and encouraging others and rarely met a stranger. Dorothy also loved OU sports.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ada, three brothers and four sisters; as well as her daughter, Paula Bumgardner; and husband, Paul Bumgardner.
She is survived by two children, Sid Bumgardner and wife Karen, and Dr. Joyce Bumgardner Harkreader and husband John; six grandchildren, Jill Beard and husband Erik of Dallas, Mitchell Bumgardner of Tulsa, Brooke Bumgardner of Broken Arrow, Trevor Harkreader and wife Christine of Kennesaw, GA, Jack Harkreader and wife Jenna of Broken Arrow, Robert Harkreader and wife Vickie of Wagoner; four great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Boston, Noelle and Nicole; and one sister, Ramona Leven; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Hayhurst Funeral Home in Broken Arrow. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 12110 E 7th St, Tulsa. Interment will follow at Floral Haven Cemetery.
