Dr. Richard Elliott Dixon

Dr. Richard Elliott Dixon, 71, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dr. Dixon is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Kay Rutherford Dixon; one son, Michael Elliott Dixon of Glendale, CA; one daughter, Amanda Dixon of Denver, CO; one brother, David Dixon of Broken Arrow; two nephews, Dr. Stephen Dixon of Tulsa, and Doug Dixon of Los Angeles, CA and their mother, Anne Dixon of Tulsa. Born July 12, 1942 in Tulsa, to the late Aubrey Earnest and Claudine Lou (Elliott) Dixon, he graduated from Hominy High School in 1960. In 1964 he graduated from OSU where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He attended the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where he obtained an MS in Anatomy and an MD in 1969. During that time he married the love of his life, Kay Lou Rutherford, on June 18, 1966 in Tulsa. Dr. Dixon and his wife moved to Tulsa in 1974 and he spent the majority of his 30 year career at Tulsa OB-GYN Associates, Inc. An avid outdoorsman, he spent his retirement years as a master gardener and a volunteer for various charities. A man of few, yet incredibly witty words, he was loved by so many throughout his life. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church. A reception will follow in the Parlor.
