Tammy Ann Altaffer Pawhuska native, Tammy Ann Altaffer, 50, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 in the St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, following her courageous battle with cancer.
"Coach A", as she was most affectionately known to her students and colleagues, was born March 13, 1968 in Pawhuska, the daughter of Doyle Gene and Frances (Butts) Altaffer. A graduate of Pawhuska High School with the Class of 1986, she continued her education at Oklahoma State University, obtaining her Bachelor's in 1990. In 2014, Tammy obtained her Master's Degree in Administration from Southern Nazarene University.
Her first teaching job was in Mannford, followed by East Central High School in Tulsa, Nathan Hale High School, then Central High School. Although Tammy had taught History and coached basketball, she truly found her calling as a track coach.
Coach A loved coaching her Central Braves in track. Ultimately, she became the Athletic Director at Central, along with her teaching and coaching duties. She loved her kids at every school she taught.
Coach A is survived by her mother, Frances Altaffer, of Pawhuska; sister, Angie Bruce and husband, Bill, of Pawhuska; daughters, Jaden Munsell and Rae Riggs; aunt, Virginia Parker of Pawhuska; niece and nephew, Katy Bruce and Ethan Bruce and fiancée, Sami Hardgraves; aunt and uncle, Glenda and Roy Altaffer; numerous cousins; and too many close friends to mention. She was preceded in death by her father, Doyle Altaffer; grandparents, EV and Nonaway Altaffer and Jay and Bertha Butts; and uncle, Doyle Parker.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 14, 2:00 PM, in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. Rev. Brett Thomasson will officiate. Interment will follow.
