Bedlam rained out Friday

The Bedlam softball series opener between No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 2 Oklahoma State — the first Bedlam matchup of top 15 teams since 2010 — was canceled because of rain in Stillwater.

Games at 7 p.m. Saturday in Norman (on ESPN) and 3 p.m. Sunday (FSP) in Stillwater remain as scheduled, and the coaching staffs will try to reschedule Friday’s game.

This is the third straight season that the Bedlam series will determine the Big 12 regular-season championship. OSU (37-11, 13-2 Big 12) needs a series sweep to win its first conference title since 1995. The Sooners (45-2, 15-0) only need one win to clinch their eighth consecutive Big 12 regular-season title.

UConn 4, Tulsa 3

Haley Meinen went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs Friday, but Tulsa fell to UConn in the American Athletic Conference series opener at Storrs, Connecticut.

Chenise Delce was 2-for-2 and Julia Hollingsworth had a double and an RBI for the Golden Hurricane (33-17, 14-5).

Kassidy Scott (8-6) took the loss, giving up three earned runs on six hits in six innings.

Kiwi McDaniel drove in a pair of runs for the Huskies (21-27, 8-11).

The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.

OSU 1, Oregon State 0

Jensen Elliott and Peyton Battenfield combined on a two-hit shutout as the Cowboys knocked off the No. 2 Beavers in Corvallis, Oregon.

Elliott struck out four in seven innings and Battenfield fanned three over the final two. OSU scored the only run in the seventh, when Alix Garcia singled in Andrew Navigato.

ORU-WIU game postponed

With heavy rain and thunderstorms expected the rest of the evening, the Oral Roberts game against Western Illinois scheduled for Friday at J.L Johnson Stadium was postponed.

The Golden Eagles and Fighting Leathernecks will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Fans with tickets to Friday’s game may redeem those at general admission value for any remaining ORU regular-season home game. Tickets for Saturday will work for both games.
