OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma State’s season came down to a few inches Saturday night against Washington. Those tiny spaces between a ball safely finding a hole, finding a glove or even connecting with a bat.

It was a pitcher’s duel Saturday night at the Women’s College World Series. The Cowgirls came up on the short end with a 1-0 loss in an elimination game at USA Hall of Fame Stadium.

Amirah Milloy’s two-out single drove in Taryn Atlee in the bottom of the fourth inning to give Washington the lead OSU couldn’t overcome.

Pitching and defense kept the Cowgirls within one swing of the Huskies. But that swing never came. Taran Alvelo (26-5) tossed a complete game three-hitter. She struck out 16 and didn’t issue a free pass.

The Cowgirls, who finished the season at 45-17, didn’t put much pressure on Alvelo. They only put one runner in scoring position. Outside of the three hits, OSU put two balls in play.

The best chance to break through came when Madi Sue Montgomery lifted a pitch deep down the left field line. Washington left fielder Sami Reynolds snatched it at the top of the wall.

In retrospect, it evened the defensive mastery. OSU center fielder Chyenne Factor robbed Milloy of a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning.

Samantha Show, who carried the Cowgirls throughout the postseason, was dominant in the circle. The senior held the Huskies (52-8) to one run on seven hits. Show struck out three and walked one over six innings. She finished the season with a 22-10 mark in the circle. At the plate, she went 1-for-3, collecting one of OSU’s three hits.

The Huskies will face UCLA Sunday. They must beat the Bruins twice to advance to the best-of-three championship series, which is scheduled to begin on Monday.
