HOUSTON — No. 2-seed Tulsa jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead, but No. 7 East Carolina rallied to claim a 4-3 extra-inning victory Thursday in the American Athletic Conference Championship.

The Hurricane (35-18) will await its NCAA Regional fate as the tournament field will be revealed at 8 p.m. Sunday on ESPNU.

Morgan Neal and Tori Stafford each went 3-for-4 to pace the offense for TU, but the Hurricane gave up three unearned runs behind four errors.

Samantha Pochop (12-7) took the loss after she gave up four hits and an unearned run in five innings out of the bullpen.

Erin Poepping (15-19) tossed a complete-game for the Pirates (23-31). She gave up three runs on three hits in the first inning but scattered six hits over the final seven.
