Tulsa finally turned around a season of close calls.

The Hurricane snapped its five-game American Athletic Conference losing streak, surprising Central Florida 34-31 on Friday night at Chapman Stadium.

Led by 2018 starter Seth Boomer, who replaced an injured Zach Smith late in the first half, TU outscored UCF 17-3 in the second half.

The Hurricane (3-7, 1-5) took the lead for good on a 23-yard field goal by Jacob Rainey with 5:09 left in the game. The field goal was set up by an interception from Reggie Robinson II. Rainey had missed a go-ahead field goal minutes earlier after Tulsa had recovered a fumble on a kickoff.

Boomer finished 6-of-10 for 87 yards and a touchdown. Shamari Brooks rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.
