GUTHRIE — The Regent Prep girls golf team nearly completed a clean sweep in its first year of existence.

Regent Prep freshman Jenni Roller shot 3-under 69 on Thursday for a 142 total and a four-shot victory in the Class 2A state championships at Aqua Canyon Golf Course.

But Regent came up just short in the team competition, losing a one-hole playoff against Oklahoma Christian School after the teams finished 36 holes tied at 750. OCS started the day in fourth, three shots behind Regent Prep.

Roller, the daughter of Regent coach Bill Roller, shot a career low Thursday and finished the tournament at even par. On the 135-yard par-3 fourth hole Thursday, she hit her tee shot to within a foot and made one of her four birdies.

Jenni Roller is the sister of Regent’s reigning 2A boys champion, J.P. Roller. The Regent boys have moved up to 3A and will start their state tournament Monday.

“She played well the whole tournament, and she played really well today,” Bill Roller said of his daughter.

This is the Rams’ first year to field a girls team. Even with the second-place finish, Bill Roller said he was “pleased, absolutely.”

“We only had five girls, and that was just enough to have a team. We had some good athletes who had played golf, and that’s what made it where we were able to get this far.”

Oklahoma Christian Academy, which entered the day in second, placed fourth at 783. Mooreland, which started the day in third, finished third at 754.

OCS’ Brooklyn Benn placed second in the individual competition with a 146.
