ENID — Ambren Voitik was a hometown hero Sunday as the West pulled out a 2-1 win over the East in the large-school All-State baseball game in Enid’s David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
Athletes representing the eastern half of the state won the other games sponsored by the Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association. The East won 10-2 in the small-school game (2A-A-B) and 8-3 in the 4A-3A game.
The OBCA games replace the Oklahoma Coaches Association games, normally played during the OCA convention in Tulsa.
Voitik, an Enid second baseman, doubled to lead off the top of the seventh inning for the Large West and scored the go-ahead run on a single by Carl Albert’s Carter LaValley.
The West led 1-0 in the fifth inning when Edmond North’s Jason Reeder doubled, stole third and scored on an error. But the East tied the game in the sixth when Owasso’s Connor Beichler doubled, moved to third on a flyout and scored on a wild pitch.
Westmoore’s Kale Davis pitched three hitless innings for the West and was named MVP of the game.
Wright City's Brady Evans had a two-run double in the first inning and was named MVP of the small-school game. Coalgate's Austin Lambert helped lead the East with RBI singles in the third and fifth innings and an RBI double in the seventh.
Justin Richards of Sallisaw had a two-run single in the first inning and was named MVP in the 4A-3A game. Clay Cross of Poteau added a two-RBI single for the East and Harrah's Tyler DeLong had a two-run homer for the West.
