After one season, Tobey Nightingale has resigned as head girls basketball coach at Sand Springs.

Athletic director Rod Sitton confirmed Nightingale’s resignation Tuesday morning.

“Coach Nightingale’s husband’s employment has taken them to the Denver area. I appreciate all she has done for Lady Sandite basketball and wish her and her family well,” Sitton said.

Nightingale inherited a team with two state championship tournament berths and four returning starters. Led by seniors Destiny Johnson, Holly Kersgieter and Isabella Regalado, the Sandites reached the state tournament for the third straight year.

The Sandites ended the season with a 21-5 record following a first-round loss to Norman after coasting through the regional and area tournaments. They defeated Owasso and Ponca City in the regionals, and won the area championship with a 57-43 victory over Moore.

Nightingale was a standout basketball player at Sapulpa, guiding her team to the state tournament four consecutive years as a point guard. She played college basketball at UMKC and at Southwestern Oklahoma State.
