EDMOND — Scott Burger has been around football as a player or coach for a half century. Tuesday, he officially walked away.
Burger, Edmond North's football coach, told his team that he is retiring after a 36-year coaching and teaching career that followed a successful playing career.
“It's time,” Burger said. “I've been blessed being able to do this for 36 years, and it's just time. I've had many, many friends along the way, many coaching friendships, been able to coach a great group of kids over my career, great supportive parents, great supportive administration and it's just time. I've enjoyed it, and it's the right thing to do right now.”
Burger, 59, spent the past four seasons leading Edmond North in his first and only head coach position. The Huskies went 1-9 this season, but 14-18 the other three seasons.
