Coming off a 10-3 season and a win in the Miami Beach Bowl, the University of Tulsa will open spring practice Feb. 28 and conclude with the annual spring game April 8.

“We’re excited to get back on the field with our players,” coach Philip Montgomery said. “It’s not that long ago since we were on the field playing in the Miami Beach Bowl. We’re looking to continue with the success we had last season and elevate our program even more.”

For the 15 practices, Montgomery returns 13 starters as well as an additional nine players who saw starting time last season.

“Obviously, we have some holes to fill with graduating players, specifically at quarterback and receiver on offense,” Montgomery said. “Defensively, we’ll have to fill the middle two spots on the defensive line as well as finding replacements for two linebackers and one safety.

“We feel good about a number of the young players vying for those positions, which will make for some really solid competition this spring.”

The first five sessions will be before spring break. TU will return to the field March 21 and practice the next three weeks before completing the period with the spring game. The kickoff time hasn’t been set.
