Susan Lively

Susan Lively. TOM GILBERT/Tulsa World

Years in media: 19

Why I got into this business: Pure happenstance. I was asked to write a feature for another Tulsa publication. Instead of a 500 word interview, I submitted the interview, along with background information on the issue and a checklist - 3,000 words or so. It was published and in a month or two, they took a chance on me and asked me to be the editor.

In one sentence, why is journalism important: Journalism is the last line of defense in a democracy; it is our responsibility to investigate events and facts and report to the public to the best of our ability, without prejudice, bias or fear.
